Polyphonic ringtones use several notes to create a song. It is much easier to distinguish your favorite melody with a polyphonic ringtone. However, they are still made up of notes and not the actual song itself.
Finally, many phones today are capable of using mp3 downloads to play your actual favorite song every time someone calls you! How awesome will it be to hear your song playing? Some phones now even allow you to have multiple downloads and set specific songs as ringtones for certain callers.
