Choosing and Installing an HDTV Antenna

Choosing a hdtv antenna can be quite frustrating. Things may seem to be quite complicated if you have no clue about these equipments and you do not want to spend hours trying to assess how to get the best reception.

First, you need to decide whether you would need an indoor hdtv antenna or you would go for an outdoor antenna. If you have space and facility, outdoor antenna is always the best.
Next, you should know that not every antenna is similar. Each one is unique and you need to assess your requirement before weighing the buying options. Internet is a good source to assess your requirements. If you log on to the web, you would be able to find out the location of transmitters, type of antenna required, range of signals, etc.

Remember to check the frequency band at which most of the channels are transmitted in your city. If the channels are transmitted on Ultra High Frequency, you would need an UHF antenna otherwise a VHF antenna would suit you. If the channels are available in both frequency bands, choose an antenna that supports both the UHF and VHF signals.

You will also have to check the location of transmitting towers with respect to your location. It would help you to determine whether you need a unidirectional or multi-directional antenna. If all the transmitters are in the same area or at 20 degrees from each other, you can use a unidirectional antenna else you would need a multi-directional one.
